LINKS!

When the shuttle is up listen to live communications from WA3NAN (the Goddard amateur radio club, Greenbelt,MD) on the following frequencies: 3.860lsb - 7.185lsb - 14.285usb - 14.295usb - 21.390usb - 21.395usb - 28.650usb. On the eastern U.S. coast your best bets are the first 2 freqs. Tips: Pick a frequency and stay on it awhile, shuttle comms are not non-stop! Also, weather WA3NAN is on the air or not depends on it's volunteers and weather conditions and if the crew is awake or asleep. Visit the WA3NAN web site (see my links page!), it will announce if they are on the air or not. Many thanks to WA3NAN for providing this service!

Thank you for visiting my web site. What I try to do with the site is provide you with some astronomy information, Shuttle / ISS info and related links. I'm also an amateur radio operator (KB2SMS) so I will also provide info and links for my fellow hams as well. If you're into astronomy, the shuttle, the ISS or Ham radio there should be something here for you. New information and links are added on a regular basis so check back from time to time. There are no fancy schmancy animated graphics or ads, which is o.k. because the pages will load faster as a result. If you've visited my site please drop me an e-mail and let me know what you think! Many thanks to those of you who have e-mailed me kudos. This web site debuted April 8th 1997.

This is a .wav file of my QSO with John Blaha, KC5TZQ on Mir on January 4th 1997 at 10:52a.m. ET. Click the satellite icon to hear it. After 2 years of trying to make a voice contact I finally did it. He heard me the first transmission but I had some static on my transmission so he asked me to repeat. I didn't have much time left on the pass so I was a bit nervous the 2nd time, thinking I might miss the chance. The contact lasted 1 minute, 19 seconds. Equipment was an Icom 2000H through a Ringo Ranger vertical at 25 feet pushing 50 watts. Thanks John for the contact!

My Amateur Radio Station currently consists of the following gear:

HF: Kenwood TS-450S, Icom IC-706MKII w/ MFJ 969 tuner, powered by an Astron RS-20m. A G5RV and a Cushcraft AR-10 vertical for 10m.

MFJ-9140B 40m QRP CW station, battery powered and charged with a Unisolar US-5 Solar panel and Morningstar Sunsaver 6 charge controller w/LVD. Antenna is the G5RV or a longwire.

VHF
: Icom 2100H (shack, through a Diamond X510), Kenwood TM 241A (car, Radio Shack mag mount), 6m antenna is a Cushcraft A50-3s on a Radio Shack rotor.

HTs:
Radio Shack HTX-202 and an Icom W32A.

PSK31:
I'm running Digipan 1.5 and using the RIGblaster on my Kenwood TS-450S, look for me on 14.069.5 or 28.119.5!

2m Packet or APRS:
KPC-3 Plus Running KAGold or DOS APRS
Look for me digi'ing through the ISS packet station!

If you're in or passing through Dutchess County,N.Y. stop by 146.535 simplex and give me a shout!

Other radios I own and use:

Panasonic RF-B65 shortwave radio

XM Satellite radio
- A Delphi SkyFi receiver and Delphi Boombox. Just got it July 5th and it's absolutely GREAT! I'm sick of all the commercials on regular AM/FM radio, 20-22 minutes worth per hour on AM/FM, zero to 6 minutes an hour on some XM channels and some channels have NO commercials at all except short promos once in a while! I HIGHLY recommend it.

Don't look down here!    ;)
